Life on the farm!

Is God good to me?

Sometimes, life on the farm is tough. Chickens get taken by critters. Beehives collapse. That big buck I’ve been tracking slips away. Tractors break down. Pole saws get stuck in trees. Tornadoes knock over deer stands. You name it—if you spend enough time working the land, you’ll see your fair share of setbacks. And in those moments, it’s easy to wonder: Is God really looking out for me? Where’s all the kindness, love, and goodness we hear so much about? Some days, it almost feels like God is against me—not for me.

But that couldn’t be further from the truth. And here’s why.

God’s Son, Jesus Christ, paid the ultimate price—made the ultimate sacrifice—for who? For me. For this old guy who messes up, gets frustrated, and sometimes questions what it’s all for. It’s hard to see that truth clearly when life is throwing curveballs, but that’s exactly when we need to hold tight to the bigger picture.

The Bible says:

“If they are saved by God’s kindness, then it is not by their good works. For in that case God’s wonderful kindness would not be what it really is—free and undeserved.”

—Romans 11:6

God has always been kind. He is kind now. And He will continue to be kind—no matter what comes our way. Why? Because through His Son Jesus Christ, He has saved those who accept Him from the greatest problem we’ll ever face: sin.

So even when the tractor won’t start, the deer stand’s in pieces, and the bees are gone, I remind myself—God’s goodness isn’t measured by how easy the day is. It’s measured by the grace He’s already given.
